How to Stay Motivated as a New Blogger

Staying motivated can be hard in any facet of your life, and you will need to find different ways to stay motivated depending on what aspect of your life you are focusing on.

As a new blogger, entering the blogging world can be wild. There is a ton of information about blogging and that can be overwhelming while trying to find your own voice in this community.

Getting overwhelmed often and quickly leads to a lack of motivation, so I want to share my tips and tricks for staying motivated as a new blogger.

Remember Your Why

There was a reason you wanted to start your blog. Starting a blog takes work, so there was something that not only compelled you to start, but it kept you going long enough to actually start it and put in some real work.

Does that reason still hold true for you? Do you still care about it?

If yes, then focus on your reason and motivation will come easier.

If not, then is there any other new reason you can think of to continue your blog? Without a feeling of purpose, it will be impossible to find and maintain motivation to put in the work.

Learn Bit by Bit

As I said earlier, becoming overwhelmed is a major cause of losing motivation because you may feel that you cannot possibly learn everything you need to learn in order to blog successfully.

My suggestion is to focus on one topic at a time, and try to implement it before moving on to another topic.

For example, perhaps you’ll first start by learning a bit about Web Design. Then you can work on the web design of your website. Once you feel like you’ve generally gotten the hang of web design and like the design of your site, you can move on to another topic such as basic SEO. Then you learn about basic SEO and try to implement that information. After implementing it and feeling comfortable, then move on to another topic.

The point is that you only tackle a piece of the information at one time, and don’t try to absorb more information until you feel comfortable with the first piece. Keep in mind that you don’t need to fully master a topic before moving on, but just stay on a topic until you feel comfortable learning something new. You can always go back to old blog posts and update them based on information you learn later.

Breaking this down might help you stay motivated because you won’t become paralyzed by the overwhelming amount of information there is to learn about blogging.

Plan it Out

Having specific goals and a specific plan in place to help you reach those goals will help you to stay on track and not lose interest.

As long as you commit to going along with the plan you make for yourself, that can typically get you through any slumps in your motivation.

For me, I like to get as detailed as possible so I don’t even need to think about what I want to get done every day or every week. At the beginning of the week, I make daily to-do lists for that week. Then each day all I need to do is follow that list if I’m not feeling motivated.

Of course, if I have a day where I’m feeling extra motivated, I can go above and beyond my to-do list. I wouldn’t want to limit myself. But having a to-do list that I require myself to complete will keep me from doing nothing if I don’t feel motivated.

Think Big

We all know that setting goals is important, but a lot of us try to be “realistic” with our goal-setting. Maybe we do this because we don’t want to fail spectacularly.

I challenge you to stop being realistic.

If we have small goals, we will naturally just put in the work we think we need to do to achieve those goals. That is still growth and is still good, but it won’t give you the growth you are probably hoping for.

Making big goals that you don’t think you can achieve can help to motivate you to do everything you possibly can to try to reach those goals. You’ll be surprised by how much work you are able to put in if you set a big goal for yourself.

I think humans innately don’t want to fail. Instead of limiting ourselves with small goals that we think we could reasonably achieve, we can push ourselves to achieve more than we ever thought we could just by thinking bigger with our goals.

Read Blog Income Reports

If you are hoping to monetize your blog, then I have found it to be extremely motivating to see what other people have achieved with their blogs.

Reading blog income reports from big bloggers can show you how they make money and how much money it is possible to make. This is very inspiring to me, and maybe it will be for you too.

Reading blog income reports from beginner bloggers allows me to feel like I’m not alone, and I can see what works for new bloggers at this particular time, since algorithms change constantly. That’s why I started making monthly blog income reports starting from the very first month I created my blog.

Here are some of my blog income reports, if you’d like to check some out:

Blog income reports can be inspiring and motivational for a variety of reasons, but it really works to make me want to improve my blog and work harder immediately.

I firmly believe that blogging can change your life, and I am hoping that it will change mine. Success usually takes a significant amount of time, so finding a way to stay motivated and keep going will be essential. You’ll never know how close you are to success.
